Question:
How can I program the QUASAR Respiratory Motion Phantom (pRESP)?
Answer:
The QUASAR Respiratory Motion Phantom (pRESP) can be programmed using the dial on the phantom (local control) and within the software when using a computer (software control).
When the phantom is connected via software control it can be controlled by the software or locally. If the phantom is not connected to a computer it can only be controlled locally with the dial on the phantom.
Local control:
1. Assemble the phantom and apply power. The phantom will cycle to its home position
and the green power indicator will be illuminated. The Programmable Drive Unit always starts in Rotation Mode under Local Control.
*Note: If the phantom is under Software Control you can return to Local Control by clicking the
“Disconnect” button in the Software Application. Also note that the phantom will time out and
return to Local Control after about 15 seconds if the Ethernet Cable is disconnected or if the Software
Application is closed.
2. Press the Control Knob to start and stop motion.
3. Turn the Control Knob to change the speed. The Display shows the speed of motion in breaths per
minute (BPM) and seconds per breath (SPB).
4. You can change to Position mode by pressing and holding the Control Knob for 1 - 2 seconds--when first in Rotation mode. The Programmable Drive Unit will change to Position Mode and the Display will show “Position”.
5. Turn the Control Knob to adjust the position of the Translation Stage. The position is shown on the Display in mm relative to the central home position. The Display is accurate only if the amplitude of the Translation Stage is set to 20 mm.
*Note: The chest Wall Platform has a maximum 10 mm peak-to-peak amplitude.
Software Control:
1. Assemble the phantom and apply power. The phantom will cycle to its home position and the green power indicator will be illuminated. The Programmable Drive Unit always starts in Rotation Mode under Local Control.
2. Be sure to set the amplitude of the Translation Stage to 20 mm; use the Sinusoidal Cam for the Chest
Wall Platform.
3. Connect the phantom to your computer or computer network using the Ethernet Cable and the Crossover Adapter Cable. The Ethernet Cable is standard “CAT5e” internet cable. The Crossover Cable Adapter can be at either end of Ethernet Cable.
4. Start the software application QUASAR Programmable Respiratory Motion on your computer. The software starts in the Phantom Control module. Connect to the phantom in the software.
5. The speed, mode and amplitude can be controlled with the software on the left side panel.
