Question
How can I verify the integrity software downloads with a SHA checksum?
Answer
We provide the SHA-256 checksum for software downloads to verify the integrity of the downloaded files. If the checksum is calculated after the download and compared to the value we publish, it is certain that the installer package is intact, complete and no manipulation happened to the files during upload, storing on a sharepoint folder or during the download.
There are different tools available for calculating checksums with Windows (e.g. 7zip), the results should be the same, no matter what tool is used. You can also use a build-in Windows tool to generate the SHA-256 checksum:
How can I use the Windows build-in SHA-256 checksum calculator via command line prompt?
Once software package is fully downloaded, the SHA-256 checksum can be calculated and compared to the value published for the particular software.
If there is no match between these values and the checksums you are getting from the downloaded zip file, please contact the IBA Dosimetry Service team, to notify us about the mismatch and to receive a new download.
