Question
What values (relative electron density (rED)/mass density) should I use for the density overwrite?
Answer
IBA Dosimetry´s RW3 material has an electron density of 3,386 x10^23 e/g and a mass density 1,045 g/ccm. These specifications lead to an electron density relative to water of 1,012. This is the value which must be entered as reference in:
- all TPS using analytical algorithms such as AAA or pencil beam.
- dosimetry procedures in solid water with chamber inserts.
For TPS (Pinnacle, Ocentra, RayStation) which rely on mass density please use either the mass density values given in the user guide or convert it in rED according to your TPS formula or MC conversion formula. For Monaco the mass density of 1,045g/ccm is converted to 1,038rED. Dose will be calculated as dose to medium.
For Acuros, in which an intrinsic material value table must be used during scanner definition, it requires the selection of the RW3 or solid water material which has closest values for electron density in e/g and mass density to our material.
