Question
How can I configure Windows Operating System to utilize the dedicated Graphics Processing Unit, or GPU (whether Nvidia or AMD), when running myQA Accept?
-
Answer
Generally, the Windows OS will run applications with high performance requirements on your system's dedicated GPU (usually from the manufacturers Nvidia or AMD). However, for lower-requirement applications, Windows may attempt to run them on the onboard GPU (usually an Intel chip). This can cause the application to crash.
So, it is beneficial to configure the Windows OS settings to utilize the dedicated GPU for certain applications, like myQA Accept. Please follow the steps below to setup your machine in this way.
Note: Please be aware that administrator rights may be required.
Note: This article can be used for Windows 10 & 11 systems; for older OS, the menus may be different, but the principles remain the same.
Step 1 - Navigate to the Windows Settings menu "Graphics settings."
- From the Windows search bar, please type "Graphics settings" or navigate Settings App > Display > Graphics
Step 2 - Add the myQA Accept app to the list of custom options.
- Use the "Browse" button.
- Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\IBA Dosimetry\myQA Accept.
- Select "myQAAccept." This will cause the app to appear in the list below.
Step 3 - Set the custom graphics preferences for myQAAccept
- Expand the app details by clicking on it.
- Select the "Options" button
- Select the dedicated GPU using "High Performance" option, then select "Save." The GPU listed should be either Nvidia or AMD (both options pictured below).
Step 4 - Verify that the preferences have been applied correctly.
- In the same Settings menu, you should see "High Performance" listed for the relevant apps.
Step 5 - Finally, restart your computer.
- The next time the application is launched, it will utilize these new settings.
- As an optional verification, you can monitor the performance of myQA Accept in the Task Manager application, Performance view, GPU option.
