Water Reservoir with Bidirectional Water Pump
The water reservoir Type 306/1 or 306/2 is used for filling and draining the water phantom, storage of the
water while the phantom is not in use, and for TPR/TMR measurements (if type with bidirectional pump). The carriage of the water reservoir is provided with two fixed and two steerable rollers with parking brakes.
The water reservoir with bidirectional pump (optional) can be used stand-alone and connected to the Blue Phantom² connection box to be used with the remote control of the Blue Phantom 2 . In this case, the hand control of the water reservoir is not needed for operation. The water reservoir is connected to the PUMP CONTROL connector and the HA05-adapter cable E1149620 to the corresponding ODU connector at the front panel (behind the front hatch) the Blue Phantom2 connection box. The connection is hard-coded and fits in one direction only (marked by a red dot at the connectors). In this context, also refer to Section 2.1.1 and chapter Section 2.5

Water Reservoir Type 306/1 or 306/2 with bidirectional pump: 1: Water
hose with quick coupler; 2: Water level gauge; 3: Additional outlet for
water hose; 4: Pump control (connect to water phantom); 5: Hand
control; 6: Parking brackes.

Using the Water Reservoir
The water reservoir is provided with a bidirectional DC water pump and an electromagnetic valve to prevent water leakage in case of hose failure and to prevent water from flowing back into the water reservoir during measurements, while the hose is connected to the phantom.
If the pump has been in operation for more than 15 minutes without interruption, it will automatically be switched off, and the red LED above the Fill or Drain button will flash. To release the water reservoir and continue the operation, press the Stop button.
If the Fill button is pressed the first time after the water reservoir has been connected to the mains outlet,
there is an initial waiting time of approx. 15 seconds. During this time, the electromagnetic valve is opened in order to remove the air between the pump and the electromagnetic valve. The red LED above the Fill button flashes during this time. This procedure can be interrupted by either interrupting the mains
connection or by pressing all buttons simultaneously (soft reset).
The pump can be locked by pressing the Stop button for more than 2 seconds. In this condition, neither
manual nor software controlled operation is possible. The LED above the Stop button flashes. You can
release the water reservoir by pressing the Stop button once or by interrupting the mains connection.
The electronic control incorporates a verification of the temperature. Over temperature is indicated by a
fast flashing LED (5 Hz) above the Stop button. In case of over temperature, the water reservoir is locked
until the temperature decreased sufficiently. This locking condition cannot be released by the user, even
not by interrupting the mains connection.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: EXTERNAL PUMP CONTROL
The water reservoir pump can also be operated via the control panel of myQA Accept and with the corresponding CCU remote control menu.
Water Reservoir with Unidirectional Water Pump
The water reservoir type 307/1 or 307/2 is provided with a unidirectional water pump. The water reservoir is used for filling and draining the water phantom, storage of the water while the phantom is not in use.
The features of the water reservoir are:
- A standard unidirectional AC water pump with timer clock is used for this water reservoir which allows comfortable filling of the water phantom.
- Draining of the phantom is achieved by gravity.
- The storage tank is made from polyethylene to avoid corrosion.
- The carriage of the water reservoir is provided with two fixed and two steerable rollers with parking
brakes.
Water reservoir type 307/1 and 307/2 with unidirectional pump; 1: Water level gauge, 2: Openings for water hose/grips to remove the top lid (water tank and hose are inside the box), 3: Handle for moving the water reservoir, 4: Timer switch (15 minutes for one turn), 5: Wheel brakes
Using the Water Reservoir
The water reservoir is provided with a unidirectional AC water pump. See Section 4.3.1 for directions on filling the water reservoir.
To drain the water phantom, insert the water hose into the water phantom and switch on the pump
(pumping in) in order to remove air bubbles which may be left in the hose. When / if no bubbles come out of the hose, switch the pump off and leave the filling tube in the phantom. The water will flow back into the reservoir.
Information About Water to be Used
Using tap water: Chlorine additives in tap water may release corrosive chemicals under radiation. Ensure
that local chlorine levels are low when filling the water phantom with tap water. In general, tap water is not recommended.
Using demineralized (or de-ionized) water: Demineralized water has had minerals (e.g., lime) formed, but it still contains chlorine. Please note, demineralized water fosters the growth of algae (plants) and is therefore not recommended.
Using distilled water: Distilled water has little to no traces of slats, organic compounds, and microorganisms. It is recommended to use distilled water in the water phantom.
CAUTION: ABOUT ADDITIVES
Do not add corrosive additives such as oxidant reagent, acid and base to the water. It may corrode the metal parts soaked in the water.
