Water Reservoir
The water reservoir is delivered completely assembled. Carefully unpack it from the transportation case.
Keep the original packing material in case reshipment becomes necessary.
Inspect the Water Reservoir
- Check that the mains connection is in accordance to information indicated on the water reservoir's
rating label. - Check the floor condition at the locations where you want to move or place the water reservoir. Check that the maximum load capacity of the floor is sufficient (see Section 2.4).
Filling the Water Reservoir
The water pump used in this water reservoir is not a suction pump. To achieve a proper function when filling the water phantom, the water hose should initially be placed below the water level in the water reservoir. For the initial use, please proceed as follows:
- Remove the upper wooden plate from the water reservoir carriage.
- Open the round lid of the water tank.
- Fill the reservoir to approximately 5 cm below the lid.
For water reservoirs with bidirectional and unidirectional pumps, the procedure differs slightly. See below
for more information.
Water Reservoir with Bidirectional Pump
- Connect the quick-coupler counterpart (the spare part for the fill hose) to the quick coupler of the water reservoir hose and insert it into the open round lid of the water tank.
- Press the Fill button and wait until water is pumped into the bucket.
- Press the Stop button.
- Close the round lid of the water tank and put the upper wooden plate back at the water reservoir carriage.
- Stick the hose through one of the two holes of the water reservoir cover panel.
- Remove the quick-coupler counterpart and connect the short hose adapter.
- Put the hose back into the water reservoir. Ensure that the hose is securely in the water reservoir (e.g., insert the end into the second hole of the cover panel).
Water Reservoir with Unidirectional Pump
- Place the hose (without the metal filling tube connected) into a bucket on the floor.
- Turn on the timer of the water reservoir and wait until water is pumped into the bucket.
- Switch the pump off by turning the timer switch back to its 0 position.
- Attach the metal filling tube to the hose and install it in the water phantom.
- Close the round lid of the water tank and put the upper wooden plate back at the water reservoir
carriage. - Put the hose back into the water reservoir. Ensure that the hose is securely in the water reservoir (e.g., insert the end into the second hole of the cover panel).
CAUTION: DRY PUMP
Do not run the pump dry for more than 5 minutes.
CAUTION: FLOODING HAZARD
If water is filled directly into the water reservoir, do not fill in significantly more water than the water phantom can hold.
CAUTION: FILLING THE WATER RESERVOIR
Never fill the water reservoir up to the ventilation hole - approximately 5cm below is sufficient.
Water Phantom
Unpacking the Blue Phantom2
The Blue Phantom2 is delivered completely assembled in a corrugated cardboard box. Carefully unpack all items according to the instructions below.
Blue Phantom2 packaging
CAUTION: DO NOT LIFT THE PHANTOM AT THE RAILS
Never lift the Blue Phantom2 at the rails. Lift the phantom at the Perspex bars on the sidewalls of the tank.
WARNING: HEAVY OBJECT
The water phantom weights about 45 kg without water. Do not lift the water phantom alone.
1: Upper packing material, 2: Accessory box
3: Transport lock, 4: Lower packing material
- Cut the tension belts and remove the top cover of the box.
- Remove the upper packing material.
- Unpack the accessories (CCU, cabling, remote control, packing list, etc.).
- Check the packing list and ensure all items have been delivered.
- Lift the phantom out of the box and place it on the lift table (this should have already been unpacked and assembled).
- Position the lift table with the water phantom to the desired location under the linear accelerator.
- Lock the lift table using the parking brakes.
- Lift or lower the platform so that the water phantom is placed at the desired height.
- Now the water phantom may be fine adjusted in vertical direction using the three big adjustment hand wheels underneath the leveling plate and in the horizontal plane by turning the lateral adjustment handle on the table platform.
- Connect the CCU and remote control to the phantom (see also Chapter 5) and move the Z-axis upwards to release the transport lock from the mechanics.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: PACKING LIST
The standard items and all additional items according to the purchase order are stated on the packing list coming with the Blue Phantom2. In case of discrepancies between your purchase order and consignment, please contact IBA Dosimetry Section 13.1).
Device Connection Overview
The graphics below shows the general connection between the different devices
Device connection overview; The green lines indicate cable connections; 1: Water tank, 2: Field Detector,
3: Reference Detector, 4: Connection box, 5: CCU, 6: Ethernet switch, 7: Hand control, 8: computer, A:
Treatment room, B: Control room
The CCU is placed in the treatment room. It is connected to the computer via an Ethernet switch, and
connected to the water phantom via a drive control cable and two detector extension cables.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: LONG CABLE
In general, a long cable is required to connect the CCU to the local network or computer. The long cable may reduce the signal significantly. An Ethernet Switch serves as signal amplifier, and provides more parallel connections to several devices.
CAUTION: ELECTRICALLY DAMAGED CABLES
Ensure that there is no electrical damage of the cables before using them.
Minimum Requirement of Network Infrastructure
- 100BASE-TX 100MBit/sec fast Ethernet with auto-negotiation
- Cabling: CAT-5 or CAT-6; maximum segment length: 100 m; the wiring must be carried out according to TIA / EIA-568-A / B /'s Termination Standard.
