Setting up the GS+
IMPORTANT NOTICE: WINDOWS 10 VERSION 1703 OR HIGHER IS REQUIRED
To ensure proper operation of GS+, Windows 10 version 1703 or higher is required.
Mounting the GS+
CAUTION: VERIFY PROPER MOUNTING
Verify that the GS+ is properly fixed on the based (snapped in) before mounting it.
- Select a position on the gantry surface that is flat and parallel to the gantry rotation plane.
- Remove the protection foil of the adhesive tapes (1) on the bottom of the unit.
- With the GS+ in the 0° position, place the complete unit where it will be affixed to the machine. Press firmly to secure the base on the gantry surface.
Base for Varian TrueBeam
By default, the GS+ is delivered with single-layer tape applied in four positions on the bottom of the base. Due to the curvature of the Varian TrueBeam LINAC cover panels, it is required to use an additional layer of adhesive tape in the two middle positions (2) as shown to the right.
HALO GS+ Holder
To install the holder and GS+ in the Halcyon/Ethos LINAC:
- Drive the Linac gantry to the 0° position.
- Open the Halcyon/Ethos door and set the brakes.
- Attach the GS+ to the base via the bayonet lock to the HALO GS+ Holder. Ensure that the switches of the GS+ are on the bottom side.
Note: The GS+ can be attached to the holder before or after it has been secured to the SSMM Power Box Bracket. The order of installation will be at the discretion of the user. - Remove the fixation screws from the HALO GS+ Holder.
- Place the HALO GS+ holder on the bottom part of the SSMM Power Box Bracket, with the GS+ base plate extension facing down.
- Insert both fixation screws in the SSMM Power Box Bracket holes and tighten them, ensuring the holder is securely affixed to the machine.
- Switch on the GS+.
- Close the Halcyon/Ethos LINAC door.
Note: For an installation video search for the article “How to mount the Gantry Sensor + holder for Halcyon or Ethos machines” in our Help Center (helpcenter.iba-dosimetry.com)
CAUTION: VERIFY GANTRY ANGLE VALUES AFTER GS+ HAS FALLEN
If the GS+ has fallen, the angle values delivered to the myQA SW may be wrong. Please verify the angle values displayed in the Bluetooth Gantry Angle Sensor Selection and Setup dialog or Gantry Angle Sensor Calibration Tool dialog (Section 5.3.4).
Connecting the GS+ to the myQA application
To connect the GS+ to the myQA application, see Section 6.2.2. in myQA Platform Instructions for Use.
Removing and Remounting the GS+
Remove the sensor
- Press and turn the sensor counterclockwise until the sensor is detached from the base.
Remount the sensor
- Gently press the sensor against the base, turn slightly back-and-forth until it is in position.
- Turn the sensor until it is locked onto the base.
Removing the base
- To remove the base from the gantry, place a flat screwdriver between the base and the gantry surface. Carefully lift the base against the gantry surface.
- The old adhesive tape can be removed.
Remounting the base
- To remount the base, the old adhesive tapes should be replaced by new ones (please contact IBA Dosimetry if the additional adhesive tapes have been used, Section 9.1).
- Repeat the base mounting instructions.
CAUTION REMOVE THE GANTRY ANGLE SENSOR BEFORE PATIENT TREATMENT
Remove the GS+ from the base before starting patient treatments.
GS+
Gantry Sensor + Tool
The Gantry Sensor + Tool can be used to change device information, check on device status, and upgrade the firmware.
Detected Devices (1)
Lists the GS+ devices detected by the Gantry Sensor + Tool. When the device is connected, the signal icon and size will be displayed in the upper-right corner. The device can be used only when it is connected.
Device Information (2)
MAC Address: it is unique for each GS+ and printed also on the device label.
Firmware Version: FW version number
Serial Number: serial number of the device
Calibration Information (3)
Every GS+ has a factory calibration file stored permanently. The GS+ measured gantry angles are automatically calibrated with this file. It can be viewed and stored outside the SW using the Export button.
Friendly Name and Editing Friendly name (4)
The name of the GS+ can be edited by clicking the Edit Friendly Name button and then editing or entering a new name.
Live Data (5)
Live displays the gantry angle reading and the acceleration values on X, Y, and Z-axis measured by the GS+ in the unit of the earth’s gravitational acceleration, which are used to calculate the gantry angle.
CAUTION: AVOID USING THE SAME FRIENDLY NAME FOR MUTIPLE GANTRY ANGLE SENSORS
Do not use the same friendly name for multiple gantry angle sensors.
In the Bluetooth Gantry Angle Sensor selection and setup dialog or Gantry Angle Sensor Calibration Tool dialog, the MAC address is displayed next to the friendly name, which is unique for each gantry angle sensor and printed on the device.
Firmware update procedure
- Save the new version of firmware file received from IBA (IBAPKG file) in your PC.
- Switch off any devices paired to the GS+.
- Turn on the Bluetooth in the dedicated PC. Switch on the GS+ device. Ensure the GS+ is properly initiated.
- In the File Explorer, browse for the file, GantryAngleSensorApplication.exe, and double-click it. The Gantry Sensor + Tool dialog opens.
Note: Gantry Sensor + Tool must not be opened in two PCs simultaneously during the FW update
process. - The GS+ should appear in the Detected Devices panel (1). Click the row of the device to establish the network connection. If the device does not appear, see sub-section, Troubleshooting below.
Exchange batteries
Note: Use only alkaline-manganese batteries in the GS+ device. No lithium-ions batteries are allowed.
- Remove the sensor from the base.
- Remove the screw on the side of the GS+ (with a Philips head screwdriver) and then remove the front cover.
- Exchange the batteries.
GS+ Troubleshooting
- GS+ device is not shown in the Detected Devices list
- Make sure that any device paired with the GS+ is switched off.
- Make sure the Gantry Sensor + Tool is not opened in any other PCs simultaneously.
- Restart the Gantry Sensor + Tool and switch on the GS+ device.
- Ensure the Bluetooth is enabled on the PC and the GS+ is initiated (see Section 6.2.2.1 in myQA Platform Instructions for Use).
- Error during update
Scenario 1:
Firmware update was interrupted or not successful. In this case, the Firmware update page appear
every time when the Gantry Sensor + Tool is opened.
Re-load the firmware file. Do not interrupt the firmware update process by closing the application
abruptly or restarting the GS+ device.
Scenario 2:
If the firmware file updating process is longer than 10 minutes and it always showing “Updating device” but not make any progress
Restart the Gantry Sensor + Tool and restart the GS+ device. Perform the firmware update again.
